AEW and NJPW’s Forbidden Door event went down on June 25th, and it was quite a show. The main event saw Kazuchika Okada lose to Bryan Danielson, as many believe that Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay stole the whole show. Now, over a week later, fans are still ordering the pay-per-view.

New information has surfaced regarding the pay-per-view buys for the AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door crossover event held on June 26th. It seems that fans still want to see this event go down.
The event was heavily promoted, featuring marquee matches such as Kazuchika Okada vs Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega vs Will Ospreay for the IWGP US Title. This marked the second-annual Forbidden Door event.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Forbidden Door is expected to surpass Double or Nothing in terms of pay-per-view buys, especially considering the buys from Japan. This suggests a strong interest and support for the Forbidden Door event among wrestling fans, indicating its potential success in terms of viewership.
Forbidden Door grew 15.0 percent in television PPV buys from week one to week two, which is normal levels. Even with the word of mouth of Will Ospreay vs. Kenny Omega it didn’t grow at the level of the MJF vs. Bryan Danielson show. The second week buys for Forbidden Door were down 8.4 percent of those from Double or Nothing. For television, it was down 11.4 percent from Double or Nothing at the same 11 days out reporting time. But it was up five percent in streaming and five percent growth in streaming is very slightly more than an 11 percent decline in television these days. The U.S. number for both shows is going to end up around the same and international will be about the same as well. The show should end up beating Double or Nothing based on buys from Japan. Buys are down 7.6 percent from last year’s Forbidden Door on television, but with more buys coming from streaming and less from television, that’s to be expected, and with buys this week that gap will close more
AEW seems to be raking up more numbers, even after their shows. A new report also revealed that AEW Collision’s viewership has actually been higher than first reported.
We will have to see how AEW and NJPW’s relationship continues from this point. It seems that fans are still taking the time to check out that great night of pro wrestling?
