Malakai Black Discloses Future Plans After Retirement

Malakai Black signed with WWE in June 2016. He soon became one of the hottest acts in WWE NXT and became the NXT Champion. WWE released Black in June 2020 as part of the budget cuts stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. Now it appears Black revealed his future plans after retirement.

Malakai Black saw success in NXT as he won the NXT Championship in April 2017 at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans. That said, his main roster run from 2019 to 2021 wasn’t all that memorable.

Malakai Black signed a deal with AEW in July 2021 and while he initially had a subpar run, things are better now as he is one-third of the AEW trios champion as part of The House Of Black.

While speaking on the Undisputed podcast with Bobby Fish, Malakai Black talked about his future plans after retirement. Black revealed he and his wife Zelina Vega want to open a gym and pass his talents to passionate people who are willing to learn.

“The concept of the gym started when we started building our new house. I told my wife [Zelina Vega], ‘I want a place where I can train and teach people.’ I want to create a concept where I can implement all the different things that I feel have made me who I am and have brought me to the levels that I’ve been to and still am. I want to show that to other people, but I want to do it in a way that is not like, ‘Pay me $50 and I’ll teach you how to do springboards.’ There is a system and I want people to go through the system. We will do classes and courses.”

The House of Black are the reigning AEW Trios Champions and have been booked well so far as the champions. While Matthews and King have competed in the ring, Black still hasn’t on AEW Collision. We’ll have to see when that will happen, as Black will likely face off against Andrade El Idolo soon.
