Santana and Ortiz made their debut in AEW back in 2019 and almost instantly became one of the mainstays of AEW’s tag team division. Unfortunately, the two are no longer on good terms whatsoever. That said, it appears that Konnan is trying to reunite them now.
Santana sustained a knee injury during an episode of Dynamite in June of last year, while performing a uranage on Daniel Garcia during the Blood and Guts match. This caused him to take time off to recover from the injury.
Last year, it was reported that Santana might be thinking about leaving AEW. Santana was tweeting cryptic countdowns such as “126 days” and “Soon.” This led to fans believing he was done with AEW for good.
That said, Santana is expected to return to in-ring action. While speaking on Haus of Wrestling, Konnan revealed that he is trying to reconcile Santana and Ortiz.
“For a while here, Ortiz and Santana hadn’t been seeing eye to eye,” Konnan explained. “And I’ve been talking to both of them to see if they’ll, you know, reunite.” The pair were put with Chris Jericho upon arriving in AEW, something Konnan didn’t really understand. Despite that, they went with it anyway, but it ultimately petered out. “And I love Jericho … But bro, he did nothing with them,” he declared. “I mean absolutely nothing with them, and so these guys died a slow death.
I hope so. I think so, yeah,” he admitted when asked if he believes they could bury the hatchet. “And, you never know. Maybe when we have our show, we’ll bring them over there if they’re not working with AEW.”
Santana even dropped a tease about an in-ring return last month. We’ll have to wait and see whether Santana and Ortiz will be able to reconcile in the end.
