Gunther is in the middle of a fantastic run in WWE. The Ring General continues to dominate the competition and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. That said, it appears he was recently called a phenom in WWE.
The Ring General won the WWE Intercontinental Championship in June 2022 and has since defended it several times already. With each win, Gunther’s stock continues to rise and he becomes more and more dominating.
Gunther can match Honky Tonk Man’s long-standing record in September. Judging by how dominant he has been as the champion, it is all but confirmed that he will break the record.
Gunther also successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against Matt Riddle at the Money In The Bank Premium Live Event. While speaking on The Run-In With Ariel Helwani, Wade Barrett was asked about Gunther’s run as Intercontinental Champion. Barrett gave him props for being a phenom in WWE.
“Gunther is a complete phenom, to be honest with you. I think if he didn’t have the Intercontinental Championship, I think we’d already see him competing with the likes of Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns for the world championships. But I think he’s in the build still. I think he’s in a really good position. I just think that there’s not a single weakness to his game.”
Drew McIntyre made his return during the Money In The Bank Premium Live Event and confronted Gunther before laying him out. We’ll have to wait and see how WWE will book their feud in the coming weeks.
