Bryan Danielson and Kazuchika Okdada closed out the 2nd annual Forbidden Door event, but their match wasn’t without incident. The former WWE World Champion was injured during the match, and so many things had to change after that.

During the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event, Bryan Danielson beat Kazuchika Okada, securing a submission victory despite battling a broken arm sustained during the match. That finish had to change, because Bryan Danielson fractured his arm during the match.

The severity of Danielson’s injury became evident through a photo revealing an X-ray of his arm. His wife, Brie Garcia, commented that the injury is “worse than thought.”

In a recent episode of What Happened When, Tony Schiavone from AEW shared additional insights on Danielson’s condition.

“I do also want to say that being a part of an Okada match was one of those moments that you’ll never forget, and being a part of any Bryan Danielson match is special, especially when he worked the last part of that match with a broken arm.”

“He put that stretch plum on or whatever we call it, the LeBell lock, on with a broken hand and he put his first hand in, and then he was doing this.”

“Of course, now we don’t know if he’s working or not at this time. He does this, and he does this, and he forces his hand to lock under that much pain.

“It’s an unforgettable moment. It really is for me. I’ll remember that because I was right there seeing him take the second hand and hook him and stretch that LeBell lock on.

“I’ve seen the X-rays and I know how bad the break is. It’s a severe break.”

Due to the severity of the injury, which has been described as a “severe break,” and previous reports indicating a six-to-eight week recovery period, there have been alterations to Bryan Danielson’s plans for AEW Blood & Guts. That match will see The Elite take on the Blackpool Combat Club, without Bryan Danielson attached.

Hopefully, Bryan Danielson can rest up and heal quickly. It appears that wait might be longer than anyone wants, especially with so many big AEW events coming up in the next couple of months.
