CM Punk has an interesting place in AEW. He hasn’t been booed by fans in a while, especially like this, but Forbidden Door was certainly a chance for fans to boo the Second City Savior in a big way.

Tony Khan made an appearance on Busted Open Radio ahead of AEW Dynamite. During the interview, Khan was questioned about various topics, including his plans for Dynamite, CM Punk, Sting, Chris Jericho, and more.
One of the questions posed to Khan was whether he was taken aback by the negative reaction CM Punk received at the Forbidden Door event.
“I wasn’t surprised about that at all given that we were in Canada and given some of the things that had happened in the lead up to the show and in particular since the last time he wrestled, so I think as we go on the road, we are going to get a lot of great responses, but just like a sports team, it depends on where you’re at. Some sports teams are really popular in home cities, and then when they go on the road, it depends, and definitely I thought this was a road game for him. He did great.”
Tony Khan was asked about the possibility of a Sting vs Chris Jericho match, keeping in mind that this interview was conducted prior to the airing of Dynamite and any subsequent developments.
“At some point, they could go one on one, but let’s be excited about tonight because tonight on Wednesday Night Dynamite on TBS, this will be the first time that Chris Jericho and Sting have ever wrestled each other, and that is tonight, and it’s part of a Tornado Tag Match which is going to be wild to have Jericho and Sammy vs Sting and Darby on TBS tonight on Wednesday Night Dynamite. It’s going to be crazy, so you do get to see Sting vs Jericho tonight. I think not only are you going to see those guys fight it out, but you get to see one of the longest standing rivalries in AEW, two of the young, great stars who have been with us from the very beginning, Sammy Guevera and Darby Allin as part of this great Tornado Tag Match on TBS.”
AEW fans might have a good reason to boo CM Punk. After all, he left the company after Brawl Out, and caused a lot of trouble. Now, a lot of fans are under the opinion that he is not the best thing for AEW.
Tony Khan still brought CM Punk back for AEW Collision. This time around, this might be different. Only time will tell if all those boos will be warranted.
