NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes has thrown down the gauntlet to the winner of the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, challenging them to cash in on him and his NXT Title.

On July 1st, seven promising talents will battle it out in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, vying for a contract that grants them a title opportunity at any time and any place.

Traditionally, the contract is cashed in on world championships, but there have been exceptions. Austin Theory, for instance, attempted to cash in on Seth Rollins for a US Title match last year, albeit unsuccessfully.

During an appearance on WWE The Bump, Carmelo Hayes expressed his willingness to face the winner of the Money in the Bank ladder match and encouraged them to use their contract to challenge him for the NXT Championship.

“I invite anyone to come to ‘NXT’ and challenge me for my ‘NXT’ Championship. All those guys are phenomenal, talented guys. I’m accepting the challenge. I’m open to whoever. When I shoot, I don’t miss, and if they want to come at me, take your best shot.”

While it’s unprecedented for a Money in the Bank contract to be used to challenge for an NXT title, it’s worth noting that Charlotte Flair used her Royal Rumble win in 2020 to call out NXT Champion Rhea Ripley. This demonstrates that significant annual WWE title opportunities have been utilized to pursue NXT gold in the past.

With Carmelo Hayes throwing down the challenge, it will be interesting to see if the men’s Money in the Bank winner will seize the opportunity and make history by cashing in on the NXT Champion.

What are your thoughts on Carmelo Hayes challenging the winner of the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match to cash in on him and his NXT Championship? Do you think it’s a bold move that could create a memorable moment in NXT? Leave a comment below.
