Adam Cole was on the shelf for 9 months after suffering a concussion last year but made a remarkable comeback earlier this year. While Cole has been an active competitor following his return, it appears he will not be competing during tonight’s AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door event anymore.

As seen on this week’s episode of AEW Rampage, it was officially announced that Adam Cole was going to be squaring off against Tom Lawlor in a singles match at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event.

However, AEW President Tony Khan took to Twitter just now and announced that due to illness, Adam Cole has not been medically cleared to compete during the Forbidden Door event. Therefore, his match with Tom Lawlor has been cancelled.

Due to illness, @AdamColePro isn’t cleared tonight, therefore the Adam Cole vs @FilthyTomLawlor match is canceled.

Despite the change, tonight will be an amazing show!

Thank you to everyone watching #ForbiddenDoor, either here live in Toronto
@ScotiabankArena or on ppv tonight!

This is certainly sad news for those who wanted to see Adam Cole duke it out with Tom Lawlor, in what would have been an instant classic match. Regardless, we hope Adam Cole will recover from his illness and return as soon as possible.
