Seth Rollins is the Visionary of WWE and has accomplished a lot during his time in the company. He has also been part of factions over the years, including the like of The Shield and even a faction with Austin Theory, Buddy Matthews and more. Now it appears Rollins revealed why WWE cancelled plans for the aforementioned faction.
In late 2019 and early 2020, Seth Rollins introduced the Monday Night Messiah character to the WWE Universe. He eventually became the leader of AOP, Austin Theory and Buddy Matthews.
While speaking to Alex McCarthy of the Daily Mail, Seth Rollins talked about cancelled plans for his faction during his time as the Monday Night Messiah and explained how the pandemic and injuries ultimately ended the faction prematurely.
“The stable you had going with AOP, Buddy Murphy and eventually Theory had all the potential in the world, but everything that could go wrong seemingly did. Were there originally big plans for the ensemble?
Oh yeah. The character of the Monday Night Messiah was very much a cult leader, very much a spiritual guide and a mentor – all those things.
You look at the talent I was able to bring in under that tree, but everything just kept going sideways. There were injuries and then the pandemic happened, there was talent shifting from the main roster to NXT and everything was just uncertain.
Then it reached its peak with the story with Rey Mysterio and Dominik and all that and there really wasn’t anywhere else for it to go because it had been decimated throughout the year 2020.”
Seth Rollins will be defending his WWE World Heavyweight Champion against Finn Balor at the Money In The Bank Premium Live Event. We will have to wait and see whether Rollins will be able to end up retaining the title.
