GUNTHER is in the middle of a fantastic run in WWE. The Ring General seemingly has nobody in sight who can beat him, but he’s not interested in changing the hardware over his shoulder.
Gunther has expressed a lack of enthusiasm for a potential match against Seth Rollins, where both the World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Intercontinental Championship would be at stake.
As the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, Gunther is in the midst of a groundbreaking reign and is rapidly approaching the milestone of becoming the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion ever. This record-breaking achievement is set to take place on September 8, 2023.
Before that significant milestone is reached, WWE SummerSlam is scheduled to occur on August 5 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
While speaking to Steve Fall, GUNTHER expressed zero desire in changing up his Intercontinental Title, even if that means merging his title with the new World Heavyweight Championship.
“If I’m still the Intercontinental Champion, which I’m planning to be, I do not think so actually.”
“The new World Heavyweight Championship just got introduced, so I think there is no interest by anyone to merge that again with another title, which [a match between the two] kind of automatically would do. I think we’re in two different divisions right now when it comes to that, but down the line, everything is possible, I would say.”
We will have to see what’s down the line for GUNTHER. This is quite a situation for him, because the end of his reign will certainly draw headlines as well. His shoes as Intercontinental Champion will also be impossible to fill.
