Chris Jericho has done a lot for the pro wrestling business throughout his 30+ year career and fans continue to respect him for that. Jericho isn’t everyone’s cup of tea now, but many still acknowledge his influence in the business. He also had a confrontation with Sting last week on AEW Dynamite and it appears Jericho finally revealed when he initially thought of having a confrontation with Sting.

Chris Jericho has faced off against the best of the best the pro wrestling world has to offer, throughout his career in various promotions, whether it is WCW, ECW, WWE, NJPW and AEW.

In case you missed it, Chris Jericho and Sting had a confrontation on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. The confrontation also featured both of them using their respective bats as a sign of dominance.

While speaking on the AEW-some Podcast, Jericho revealed when he initially had the idea of finally having a confrontation with The Icon. Ultimately, it took place back in 2021.

“This is the very first time in both of our careers, which spans probaby 70 years combined, that either one of us have ever been in the ring together. Ever. Not for a showdown, not for a battle royal, nothing. We have never ever touched or been face-to-face in a pro wrestling ring before.

A few years ago, there’s a guy called Keith Mitchell, he was the longtime director of Dynamite, he directed Nitro for years, he directed World Class with the Von Erichs, he retired in 2021. We had a goodbye ceremony for him in front of one of the small Jacksonville crowds during lockdown. Sting was in the ring and they asked me to come to the ring. That was the first bit of time that Sting and I had been in the ring together. It was off camera, off TV. I remember thinking and talking to him, ‘this is crazy. We have never done anything. When the time is right, we have to do something.’ The time was right on Wednesday for the first-time ever confrontation, Sting vs. Chris Jericho.”

That said, there is doubt over Chris Jericho being the right person to retire Sting. Regardless, we will have to wait and see how AEW will book Sting and Chris Jericho’s feud in the coming weeks.
