AEW has a lot of interesting plans in the pipeline, and it seems that they’re not finished presenting unique concepts for pro wrestling. Now, we have a bit of a better idea what they are planning for one upcoming tournament
During June 21’s episode of AEW Dynamite, a tournament will be held offering a chance to compete for an AEW championship. There haven’t been a ton of details come out about that tournament yet.
The official Twitter account of AEW announced the tournament, called the Blind Eliminator Tournament, where the winners will earn a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship currently held by FTR.
While the AEW Twitter account did not provide specific details about the tournament format, they did ask fans for suggestions on which teams they believe should have this opportunity. This lack of information prompted several comments from fans, including one who humorously questioned if the wrestlers would be blindfolded during the matches.
Andrew Zarian shed some light on the concept of a Blind Eliminator Tournament based on his insider information.
“From what I have heard this is basically Lethal Lottery.”
The Blind Eliminator Tournament draws inspiration from the WCW concept called Lethal Lottery. In this concept, wrestlers were randomly paired into teams leading up to the Battlebowl battle royal, which debuted at Starrcade in December 1991. TNA also utilized a similar concept called Joker’s Wild in 2013.
We will have to see how everything pans out for AEW and this unique match. If anything, it will give fans someone unique to watch on Dynamite.
