Stevie Richards is a true veteran in the world of professional wrestling, as he had a solid run in ECW before making his way to WWE. Richards never had an amazing run as many felt he deserved in WWE, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t like his time there. That said, it appears Richards revealed how a chokeslam from Kane saved his job.
On the other hand, WWE Hall Of Famer Kane is certainly one of the most respected and loved Superstars in the company. Kane has competed in numerous matches in his career and has been part of several memorable moments.
In case you forgot, Kane and The Undertaker defended the WCW Tag Team Titles against KroniK at Unforgiven 2001. The match was widely panned for being an absolute mess, to the point that even The Undertaker was visibly frustrated. In the end, The Brothers of Destruction won.
While speaking on the Wrestling Shoot Interviews program, Stevie Ray revealed that while it was not planned, he got into the ring and took a Chokeslam from Kane. Richards claimed that his presence of mind and wherewithal to take the chokeslam ultimately saved his job in WWE.
“In the end, we called that audible, and I got in the ring. I backed up to Glenn, and I did the old reaching behind and ‘Oh my God, is he still behind me?’ Turned around, beg off, take the chokeslam, half decent, take a bump. I think that there might have saved my job in a way because I got in the ring and called that audible. They were cool with it that we kind of saved a little bit of the match with that.”
Stevie Richards also recently revealed that he is out of the woods after suffering from a spinal infection. Regardless, Richards will always be grateful for his time in WWE and that’s all that matters.
