CM Punk is back in AEW, and he has a lot of attention on him. Although some people might dread the Second City Savior’s return, Jamie Hayter is really looking forward to it.
CM Punk is set to make his highly anticipated return to AEW on June 17th for the premiere episode of AEW Collision. He will be featured in the main event, teaming up with FTR to take on Samoa Joe and Bullet Club Gold. In addition to that, Punk will deliver a speech during the episode.
This marks Punk’s first live appearance on AEW television since AEW All Out 2022, where he captured the AEW World Title. However, due to his post-show comments and involvement in an altercation with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson), he was subsequently stripped of the title and suspended by the company.
Ahead of the premiere of AEW Collision, Jamie Hayter was asked by Alistair McGeorge of Metro for her thoughts on Punk’s return.
“From my experience with him, he was always very, very pleasant. Very helpful, and I always had really great conversations with him about wrestling. He’s a wealth of knowledge because he’s been in the business for so long, and he’s got extensive experience. You’d kind of be a fool not to want to pick his brain and not want to work with the guy. He knows what he’s doing!”
Hayter continued, “He was one of the most gripping performers in professional wrestling. The Summer of Punk, all of that, everyone was so into it and there was a reason why he was the most popular wrestler. To be honest, I would say he’s still incredibly popular now, regardless of the All Out stuff and the drama. He’s still a big name, and he’s still wanted in the business. You know what? It’s not my company. I can’t speak for everybody, but I wouldn’t have an issue with it. If it’s gonna be good for the company, then I’m all for it. If it’s gonna put butts in seats, if it’s gonna get people to watch, then absolutely!”
Jamie Hayter is still going strong as AEW Women’s Champion. She will defend her title against Sky Blue on Dynamite, and odds are she will continue her time in AEW on top of the women’s division.
CM Punk is already making waves before his return to AEW, but controversy could be involved already, as his ESPN interview might rub some people the wrong way.
