IYO Sky entered the WWE main roster at last year’s SummerSlam, ending speculation that she might be leaving the company. After joining Damage CTRL, it was off to the races, and WWE could have big plans for her.
According to a recent report from Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, there are discussions within WWE about a potential face turn for SKY, with the intention of setting up a feud between her and her current Damage CTRL stablemate Bayley.
It is believed that WWE Women’s Champion Asuka will eventually use her experience to showcase a younger superstar as the next champion. Despite only having a three-year difference in their wrestling careers, the indications are pointing towards SKY being the one to dethrone Asuka and become champion.
IYO SKY has consistently impressed WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H for several years. Her reception from the Puerto Rico crowd at WWE Backlash reportedly further fueled support within WWE for her to have a successful singles championship run on the main roster.
Currently, SKY is scheduled to compete in the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match on July 1. Better Wrestling Experience has suggested that she is considered a top contender to win the briefcase. The match will also feature notable competitors such as Bayley, Becky Lynch, Zelina Vega, Zoey Stark, and an additional participant yet to be determined.
We will have to see what WWE does with Damage CTRL, and the entire women’s division for that matter. Dakota Kai’s injury certainly threw a wrench in their momentum.
