Peacemaker enabled the expansion of the DC Extended Universe into HBO Max storytelling. An effort that was created and primarily directed by James Gunn. However, he has recently provided an update on the second season, something that fans might not be all too happy about.

The HBO Max series was a follow-up to The Suicide Squad. It followed John Cena’s titular character as he’s engaged in yet another operation for A.R.G.U.S. to find parasitic aliens called butterflies. Because of the action scenes, the performances from its cast, which included Cena, Danielle Brooks, and Freddie Stroma, and Gunn’s distinctive humor and writing, Peacemaker received similar critical praise as The Suicide Squad.

HBO Max quickly approved Peacemaker season 2 with Gunn resuming to write and direct all-new episodes, the number of which has not yet been disclosed. While speaking on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, James Gunn made it clear it will be a while until Peacemaker season 2 will release.

“Peacemaker’’s coming back right after ‘Superman.’ That’s my next thing, go straight from Superman to Peacemaker. ‘Waller’ is first, and ‘Waller’ is a lot of the same people from ‘Peacemaker.’”
