WWE producer Tyson Kidd has addressed the speculation surrounding his potential comeback to in-ring competition. Despite recent videos showcasing increased gym activity, Kidd clarified his current stance on his wrestling career during an interview with McGuire On Wrestling.
Kidd, who hasn’t competed in eight years due to a career-threatening neck injury, explained that wrestling had served as a physical outlet for him for nearly 20 years. With his increased time and intensity in the gym, he aimed to find a substitute for that physical outlet.
“Here’s what I don’t think people quite understand, but I wrestled close to exactly 20 years. I get where you see these things and think that it means I’m coming back, but the truth is, when you have something like that for such a long period of time, for me, wrestling was always a physical outlet… I feel like I needed to replace that physical outlet and I upped my time and intensity in the gym a little bit.”
When questioned about a possible return to the ring, Kidd firmly stated that he is done as an active wrestler. He acknowledged that others may be skeptical due to the precedent set by wrestlers who have come out of retirement. However, he emphasized the unique nature of his injury, explaining that his neck injury affected the first two discs rather than the more common C5 and C6 repairs seen in other wrestlers.
“Yeah. It’s so funny, I answer this all the time and then people don’t believe it, and I understand why. We’ve seen so many other people say that they’re retired or whatever and they come back, and that’s great, that’s cool. It’s not in the cards for me. I have a different injury than most people.”
Kidd’s career-ending injury occurred during a WWE RAW dark match on June 1, 2015, when he received Samoa Joe’s Muscle Buster finisher. Since then, Kidd has transitioned into a producer role for WWE, using his experience and knowledge to contribute behind the scenes.
While fans may hold hope for a comeback, Kidd’s clear statement about his retirement from in-ring competition suggests that his focus remains on his role as a producer and contributing to WWE in a different capacity.
