WWE has seen a few MMA fighters make the jump to the company. Odds are, there will be plenty more, but Israel Adesanya’s name could make a huge impact in WWE.
Famous examples of MMA fighters making a WWE leap include Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley and Dave Bautista. Some have dabbled in MMA after their WWE stint started, but Ronda Rousey’s name is obviously a huge name that came from MMA, as well as Matt Riddle and Shayna Baszler.
Recently, with Endeavor’s acquisition of the premier pro wrestling organization and their subsequent decision to merge the WWE and UFC under the same financial umbrella, discussions have arisen about potential future crossovers.
While speaking to Areil Helwani on the MMA Hour, Israel Adesanya opened up about a WWE run. In the end, Israel Adesanya wants to tell his own story, so he’ll do his own thing if that happens.
“The only thing is, I like to be the author of my own story. I’ll do a couple cameos. I’ll come from under the ring or whatever, just appear… But to be a guy that is in there and then have someone write my story, and I’m this, I’m that; I feel like it’s just not my forte. But I’ll do a few cameos.”
WWE has gotten much better about letting performers give their own flavor to things. Perhaps Triple H and Israel Adesanya can work out a deal.
The idea of Israel Adesanya working with WWE seems even more likely than ever after Endeavor merged WWE and UFC. TKO Holdings Group is the company’s new name, and Israel Adesanya could be a big star for both branches of Endeavor’s new merger.
