Roman Reigns is in the middle of an unforgettable run on top of WWE, and he’s breaking records all the time. Now, he has trampled over a record that was once help by CM Punk.
At Survivor Series in 2011, CM Punk captured the WWE Championship, holding the prestigious title for an impressive 434 days. This reign began after his victory at Money in the Bank in July 2011, which led to a 28-day reign before briefly departing the company, only to return on July 25.
During CM Punk’s absence, Rey Mysterio and John Cena had their own championship reigns before Punk reclaimed the title at SummerSlam on August 14th, 2011. He later lost it to Alberto Del Rio, who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.
With two championship reigns and a combined duration of 462 days, CM Punk undeniably left his mark as a WWE Champion in the history books. Now, Roman Reigns is here to take that record from the Second City Savior.
Roman Reigns has taken his reign to new heights, surpassing all those who came before him. Reigns has held the WWE World Championship for an astounding 435 days, making him the first wrestler to break CM Punk’s record with the WWE Championship.
At WrestleMania 38, the belts were unified into the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship when Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar. More recently, on the June 2nd, 2023 episode of WWE SmackDown, Reigns celebrated an incredible 1,000 days as Universal Champion and was honored with a new championship belt.
It seems that CM Punk’s legacy in WWE is now being replaced by the Tribal Chief. We will have to see what he is able to accomplish next during this run in WWE, but he has obviously made history already.
