Tony Khan shocked the pro wrestling world when he announced that he bought Ring of Honor. Following a year of primarily hosting major events, ROH resumed airing weekly episodes on Thursdays in March 2023 through their Honor Club subscription service. AEW stars are also around as well, and the whole thing can be a bit confusing.
Since Tony Khan bought ROH, many questions have come up regarding the company’s roster. In regard to ROH, there appears to be a back-and-forth movement of stars between their roster and AEW, with a few others exclusively dedicated to the Thursday show.
During an interview with Josh Nason’s Punch-Out podcast, The Butcher attempted to shed some light on the AEW and ROH split, expressing his struggle to fully comprehend and keep track of the arrangement.
“I think there’s like some dudes that are just under the All Elite umbrella, and then there are guys that are just under the ROH umbrella.”
“I know for the most part, a lot of the guys are just under the main thing. So if you’re needed at ROH, you can go into ROH and do ROH. But I know there are some dudes that have exclusive ROH deals. It’s pretty confusing sometimes.”
AEW has a lot going on, and things are not calming down at all. They have Collision, the company’s new Saturday show, coming up on June 17th, and ROH will continue taping along the way as well. Only time will tell when Tony Khan decides that his company is doing enough.
ROH might start taping their shows before Collision. That could be a nice bonus for fans. Either way, AEW had to nix Dark and Dark: Elevation when they inked that new Warner Bros Discovery deal. WBD reportedly had no interest in ROH.
