AEW captured headlines today when one of their producers was arrested. Now, BJ Whitmer is no longer with the company.
We previously reported that AEW producer BJ Whitmer was arrested by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department in Boone County, Kentucky on the evening of June 4th.
BJ Whitmer is currently facing charges of strangulation in the first degree and burglary in the second degree. Whitmer was assigned a bond amount of $25,000 and is bound to a Grand Jury. After being in custody, he was released on June 12, 2023, as indicated by the release comments stating “FINAL RELEASE.”
AEW has now reacted to this arrest. They made it public that the company has fired BJ Whitmer over this incident.
B.J. Whitmer has been terminated following his arrest on domestic violence charges. While talent and staff are ultimately responsible for their own personal actions, this behavior is intolerable within AEW. AEW has reached out to offer support to those impacted by his behavior.
We will have to see what is next in this situation. BJ Whitmer was with AEW since the company’s incarnation. Now, he is no longer employed after this troubling incident.
