AEW hasn’t brought in Mercedes Mone yet, but that doesn’t mean it is impossible. Although the former Sasha Banks is nursing an ankle injury, but it seems that she also had big talks with AEW about the Forbidden Door event.

As the highly anticipated AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2 approaches, Mercedes Mone generated considerable buzz due to her affiliation with NJPW. Fans want to see her long-awaited AEW debut at the event.

Sadly, fans hopes were dashed when Mercedes Mone sustained an injury at NJPW Resurgence on May 21st. She was facing Willow Nightingale in that match, and things had to change. Now, Willow is the NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, a title that was created for Mone.

According to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, sources close to Tony Khan confirmed that there were substantial discussions with Mone before her injury occurred. While her absence from the Forbidden Door pay-per-view is disappointing, it’s encouraging to know that both parties were open to exploring opportunities together.

The future of a relationship between AEW and Mercedes Mone will reportedly become clearer once she receives medical clearance to return to competition.

The article also included an interview with Tony Khan, who acknowledged the injury challenges faced during the first Forbidden Door event in 2022. He also expressed confidence that AEW and NJPW would collaborate to deliver the best wrestling event of the year in the upcoming sequel.

“Last year’s Forbidden Door was a challenging time with a number of injuries and travel obstacles, and we were able to come together to put together the best event of the year in wrestling. This year’s Forbidden Door will be the best event either company has ever participated in.”

We will have to see if Mercedes Mone and AEW ever come together. Tony Khan was quite coy about her when the question came up after Double or Nothing. Only time will tell what is in the future for everyone involved.

Mercedes Mone might not have suffered a broken ankle. Her injury may have just been a severe sprain. Either way, it could cancel her involvement from the Forbidden Door II event in Toronto.
