AEW and NJPW have a nice relationship with each other. After all, Forbidden Door is already sold out in June. So, fans will see a loaded card for that event. It seems one star had an issue getting there recently.
The card for Forbidden Door is coming together, and Claudio Castagnoli was set to make an appearance for NJPW, but that didn’t happen without issues. It seems that he had some travel issues.
NJPW released a statement thanking fans for supporting the company. Then they relayed some news that the former Cesaro’s participation in the event.
Claudio Castagnoli travel issues see card order change
Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Claudio Castagnoli, who is scheduled to join Jon Moxley and Shota Umino to challenge for the NEVER Openweight 6 man Tag Team Championships at Dominion tonight, has experienced flight delays, and as a result the match order on this evening’s card has been changed.
The NEVER Openweight 6 man Championship bout, originally set to be the seventh match on the card will now be the eighth, semi main event bout.
The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship match will now be seventh on the evening.
We apologize for any inconvenience or concern caused, and appreciate your understanding.
Hopefully, this kind of thing doesn’t happen very often, but it’s bound to occur when there are so many international dates, because travel is always unpredictable. Claudio will also hopefully still be able to make AEW Dynamite next week.
WWE didn’t do much with Cesaro, and he was on a number of lists that featured underutilized talent. Now, he has a chance to really show what he can do in AEW and ROH under Tony Khan’s booking. Only time will tell how far he goes in those two companies, but TK was very happy to sign him months ago.
What’s your take on Claudio’s booking in AEW compared to WWE? Sound off in the comments!
