CM Punk’s run in WWE came to a shocking halt after the Royal Rumble in 2014 when he was frustrated with the company, which led to him walking out. Punk had promised he would never return to pro wrestling but he ended up breaking up that promise in 2021. While Punk is set to return to AEW soon, it appears that Jim Cornette believes CM Punk will eventually jump ship to WWE.
The Straight Edge superstar had been absent since All Out last year and fans wondered if he would ever come back. It was then reported that The Second City Saint will be returning to AEW programming as the main attraction for their new show AEW Collision.
Of course, that is exactly what happened as it was announced on Dynamite this week that CM Punk will appear during the debut episode of AEW Collision. Everyone was happy about this, but some believe this may not last forever.
While speaking on his Drive-Thru, pro wrestling veteran Jim Cornette made it clear that he believes CM Punk will eventually jump ship from AEW and make his way back to WWE.
“Whatever contractual time is left on Punk’s deal, you know as well as I do that he is just rolling his eyes, holding his nose, cashing his 7 figure cheques per year and gonna finish that out and then have a two-year run up north in the WWE, make several more million dollars and say, ‘f*** it, at least I ended on a high note instead of with the idiots over there in the Outlaw group.’ That’s exactly what he is gonna fu***** do. I don’t blame him, that’s what he should do.”
CM Punk even appeared before an episode of Monday Night RAW back in April. Regardless, we will have to wait and see whether The Second City Saint will ever return to WWE somewhere down the line.
