In a recent interview with Fightful, Chris Hero clarified that he has not retired from professional wrestling, despite taking on a new role as a matchmaker for West Coast Pro.
Hero explained that his involvement with the company was not initially planned, but he felt a connection to the event and approached the promoter, Scott, about helping out. The decision was made on the spot, and Hero took on the responsibilities of a matchmaker for the show.
When asked about his retirement, Hero emphasized that if he were to retire, there would have been a proper celebration or ceremony to mark the occasion. He clarified that he is currently inactive but not retired.
While waiting for the right opportunity to return to wrestling and have matches again, Hero has remained engaged with the industry. He has participated in seminars, signings, and has even explored the world of producing or directing wrestling events. Although he acknowledged that the term “producing” is often used, Hero jokingly suggested that “directing” might be a more accurate description of his role. Nevertheless, he doesn’t refer to himself as a director at this time.
“If I was retired there would have been some kind of a celebration, a ceremony, a festival. A week long, month long thing. No, I’m not retired. I’m currently inactive. I just can’t stay away from wrestling in any way. So as I bide my time and wait for the right thing to come back for and start having matches again, I have kept pretty active. I’ve done a bunch of seminars, I’ve done signings, of course. Then I kind of dabbled into the world of producing. It’s funny, we use this term producing, but it’s kind of like directing. Directing is probably a better [term], but I’m not going to start calling myself a director.”
Hero’s remarks indicate that he has not closed the door on his in-ring career and remains involved in wrestling through various roles and activities. Fans can look forward to potential future appearances from Chris Hero once the right opportunity arises.
