Santana and Ortiz made their debut in AEW back in 2019 and almost instantly became one of the mainstays of AEW’s tag team division. Unfortunately, the two are no longer on good terms whatsoever. Santana has also been out of action since last year due to injury and now it appears that he is expected to make his AEW return after injury.

Santana sustained a knee injury during an episode of Dynamite in June of last year, while performing a uranage on Daniel Garcia during the Blood and Guts match. This caused him to take time off to recover from the injury.

Last year, it was reported that Santana might be thinking about leaving AEW. Santana was tweeting cryptic countdowns such as “126 days” and “Soon.” This led to fans believing he was done with AEW for good.

According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was stated that “Santana is going to be ready to return soon.” However, Meltzer noted that he is not sure where Santana will fit into the current landscape of AEW, using the “falling out” between Santana and Ortiz as an example.

As previously reported, AEW President Tony Khan continued to pay Santana while he rehabbed his injury. Regardless, we will have to wait and see what will become of Santana once he returns.
