WWE’s NXT brand ran Battleground at the same time as AEW Double or Nothing on the 28th. It was quite a night filled with action, and a lot of fans had to make a decision about which event they would watch. It turns out that at least one fan had a bright idea of watching Battleground while he was in the T-Mobile Arena at Double or Nothing.

A video of a fan watching NXT Battleground during AEW Double or Nothing went viral. This video obviously caught the attention of NXT as well. Odds are, they loved it.

During the incredible opening match this week on NXT, which saw Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin tear each other apart, they dropped a great line on commentary. The announcer said that nobody is on their phones in the NXT arena, because this match has their full attention.

This reference was certainly noticed by NXT fans, and those who pay attention to AEW. That fan at AEW Double or Nothing watching NXT Battleground on their phone is now officially a legend, because that video obviously made its way around NXT.

Later on, they took another shot at the incident. Axiom was in a segment with Reggie, and he was watching something on his phone. Reggie said, “tell me you’re watching Battleground,” which he was.

We have no idea whether that line was planted via the announcer’s headset, because it just seems like something Shawn Michaels would say. Either way, it hit home in a big way with NXT fans. We’ll have to see if they take any more shady shots in the future, but they couldn’t resist this one.
