WWE NXT Battleground Results Coverage, Reactions & Highlights For May 28, 2023

WWE NXT Battleground is set to take place at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. The results coverage for NXT Battleground will begin at 8:00 p.m. ET and there will be a kickoff show at 7:30 p.m. ET.

NXT Battleground boasts an exciting lineup of matches. Tonight, NXT will crown a new Women’s Champion. We will also get to witness the much-anticipated rematch between Bron Breakker and Carmelo Hayes. The complete match card is as follows:

• Triple Threat Match for the NXT North American Championship: Wes Lee (c) vs. Tyler Bate vs. Joe Gacy
• British Rounds Rules Match for the NXT Heritage Cup: Noam Dar (c) vs. Dragon Lee
• Last Man Standing Match: Ilja Dragunov vs. Dijak
• NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) (c) vs. The Creed Brothers
• Tournament final for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship: Lyra Valkyria vs. Tiffany Stratton

WWE NXT Battleground Opener:

The opening package for the show airs. The commentators welcome the audience to the show.

Triple Threat Match for the NXT North American Championship: Wes Lee (c) vs. Tyler Bate vs. Joe Gacy

Wes Lee’s music plays and he comes out to the ring. Tyler Bate’s music hit and he makes his way to the ring. Joe Gacy’s theme song plays and he walks out to the ring.

The match starts and Tyler tricks Lee into attacking Gacy who tries to drive a wedge between them. They send Gacy out of the ring. They go out of the ring and attack Gacy. Tyler shoves Lee and they both exchange strikes. Gacy with a suicide dive.

He sends Tyler in the ring. Gacy slams Tyler in the ring. Cover! 1…2…Lee makes the save. Lee with a sunset flip. Cover! 1…2…kick out. Lee stomps the back of Gacy and hits a hurricanrana on Tyler. Cover! 1…2….kick out.

Bate with an uppercut on Lee and an exploder suplex on Gacy. He suplexes Lee and hits a shooting star. Bate with the pop and Bate. He then does the airplane spin on Gacy and the swing on Lee at the same time. He then throws Gacy on Lee. Bate hits Gacy with a clothesline. Cover! 1…2…Lee breaks it up.

Lee with a flurry of strikes on Bate. Gacy powerbombs Lee into Bate. Bate goes for an uppercut but is caught and hit with a reverse DDT. He locks in a submission hold on Lee. Tyler kicks Gacy but he is smiling. Tyler attacks Gacy until he releases his hold on Lee.

Bate goes for the shooting star but misses and Gacy locks in another submission hold. Lee breaks it up with a double stomp. Lee fights off both men. Gacy and Tyler take out each other. Lee hits a double cardiac kid on both of them. Cover on Gacy! 1…2..kick out. Cover on Bate! 1….2…kick out.

Gacy attacks Lee in the corner. Lee with a sleeper hold. Gacy drives him into the turnbuckle. Cover! 1…2…Bate breaks it up. He hits the Tyler driver 97. Cover! 1….2…Lee breaks it up. Lee sets Gacy up on the top rope but he fights him off.

Lee dives onto Bate on the outside. Lee then hits the cardiac kick on Gacy for the win.

British Rounds Rules Match for the NXT Heritage Cup: Noam Dar (c) vs. Dragon Lee

Dragon Lee’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring. Noam Dar’s music hit and he makes his way to the ring.

The match begins and Dar takes down Lee. He goes to work on Lee. Dar with a headlock on Lee. He gets out of it. Lee punches Dar who rolls out of the ring. Lee with a dropkick. Bell rings. End of round 1!

Round 2 begins and Lee attacks Dar in the corner. He hits multiple clotheslines and a hurricanrana. Lee with a dropkick in the corner. Cover! 1…2…kick out. Dar with a back elbow and rollup. He gets the pinfall. End of round 2.

Round 3 begins and Lee takes down Dar but is caught in a crossface. Lee fights out of it. Dar attacks Lee in the corner. Lee with a jumping knee and a kick. Lee with a hurricanrana off the apron. He hits the suicide dive. Lee sends him in the ring and kicks him. Cover! 1…2…kick out.

Lee attacks Dar and the clock runs out but Dar catches him with an elbow. End of round 3.

Round 4 starts and Dar attacks him in the corner and clotheslines him. Cover! 1…2…kick out. Dar kicks Lee and locks for the armbar. Lee escapes and superkicks him. Lee with the Texas cloverleaf. Dar gets to the rope thanks to Mensah. Frazer confronts him but is taken out by Mensah.

Lee plants Dar for the pinfall. End of round 4. Frazer and Mensah brawl. Frazer with a suicide dive on Mensah. Round 5 begins and Dar with an ankle lock. Lee escapes and goes for an hurricanrana but is powerbombed on the apron. Dar with an elbow. Cover! 1…2…kick out.

Dar kicks Lee and punches him. Lee with a German suplex and a knee. He then hits a powerbomb. Cover! 1…2…kick out. Lash Legend attacks Lee as the referee is distracted and Dar attacks Lee with an enzuigiri and gets the win.

Last Man Standing Match: Ilja Dragunov vs. Dijak

Dijak’s music hit and he makes his way to the ring. Ilja Dragunov’s theme song plays and he comes out to the ring.

The match starts and both men brawl in the ring. Dijak attacks Ilja in the corner. Ilja fights back but is taken out by a clothesline. Dijak kicks Ilja out of the ring. Dijak gets the steel steps and places it in the ring. Ilja with an enzuigiri to Dijak. He slams his head on the announcer’s desk.

Ilja goes for a forearm strike but Dijak catches him with a boot and suplexes him on the steel steps. The referee starts the ten count. Dijak gets a table from under the ring. Ilja throws himself at Dijak. The referee starts the ten count but both men beat it.

Dijak gets back into the ring. Ilja with a roundhouse kick to Dijak. Ilja’s head is bounced off the steel steps. Dijak goes for a chokeslam but Ilja reverses it into a DDT on the steel steps. Ilja attacks Dijak in the corner. Ilja attacks Dijak with the steel steps in the corner. Ilja climbs the top rope and hits the coast-to-coast on Dijak. The referee starts the ten count but Dijak beats the count.

Ilja chops Dijak multiple times. Dijak retaliates but Ilja chops him down. Ilja continues to chop Dijak multiple times. The referee starts the ten count. Ilja then hits a German suplex. Dijak gets back up and hits a chokeslam on the apron. The referee starts the ten count but Ilja beats it.

Dijak hits the feast your eyes. Dijak gets a kendo stick and hits Ilja with it. He does it again. He hits him multiple times. Dijak gets a steel chair and uses it to choke Ilja who fights back but it isn’t enough as Dijak hits him with the steel chair. Ilja hits the running knee. Ilja with the jumping forearm strike.

He hits another jumping forearm strike off the steel steps driving Dijak’s head into the steel chair. The referee starts the ten count and Dijak is unable to beat it.

Winner: Ilja Dragunov

Duke Hudson Chase University and he shouts at one of the students. He brings in Drew Gulak to teach them about wrestling. Drew says he wants to focus on what to do when the bell rings. Dempsey criticizes Thea’s wrestling. Drew also criticizes her. Thea leaves the room. Duke gets upset that Thea left the room crying and says no one talks to his students like that and asks them to get out.

Noam Dar is interviewed backstage. He says he defended the Heritage Cup on US soil for the first time ever. He says they are at the top.

NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) (c) vs. The Creed Brothers

The Creed Brothers’ theme song plays and they come out to the ring. Gallus’ music plays and they walk out to the ring.

The match starts with Julius and Wolfgang. Wolfgang with an uppercut. He tags out and Mark comes into the ring. Julius takes down Mark. Brutus tags in and takes down Mark. Julius takes Wolfgang out. Brutus tags out. They double-team Mark. Cover! 1…2..kick out.

Brutus tags in and hits the axe handle on Mark. Wolfgang tags in and hangs Brutus on the top rope. He attacks Brutus and goes to work on him. Mark tags in and goes to work on Brutus. Wolfgang tags in and continues the assault on Brutus. Mark tags in and continues to go to work on Brutus.

Brutus fights back and tags out. Juliu suplexes Mark and Wolfgang multiple times. Brutus tags in and hits a shooting star. Cover! 1…2…kick out. Julius tags in and they go for a double-team move but Mark escapes. Gallus takes out Julius and Brutus hits them with the Brutus Ball.

Both teams brawl in the ring. Julius takes down Mark and attacks Wolfgang. He plants Mark. Ivy sends Joe into the ring and Juliu attacks him. Ava takes out Ivy and Gallus hit their double-team move on Julius for the win.

Tournament final for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship: Lyra Valkyria vs. Tiffany Stratton

Lyra Valkyria’s music plays and she walks to the ring. Tiffany Stratton’s music plays next and she comes out to the ring.

The match starts and Lyra takes down Tiffany Stratton. Lyra goes for a leapfrog and lands awkwardly. It looks like Lyra has hurt her leg.

Lyra with a monkey flip sending Tiffany out of the ring. Tiffany gets back in the ring. She rolls out of the ring again. Lyra goes for a baseball slide but is caught and slammed to the ground. Tiffany sends her into the post.

Tiffany gets back in the ring. Tiffanys goes after Lyra and removes her knee brace. She sends her into the ring. Tiffany attacks the injured leg. She hits a dragon screw. Cover! 1…2..kick out. Tiffany goes to work on the injured leg. She locks in a submission hold. Lyra fights out of it.

Tiffany goes back to work on Lyra and targets her leg. Tiffany sent into the turnbuckle. Lyra fights back and hits a missile dropkick. Lyra with multiple kicks to Tiffany. She hits multiple northern lights suplex. Tiffany tries to fight back but Lyra catches her with an enzuigiri. Lyra with a baseball dropkick and she dives into Tiffany. She sends Tiffany into the ring.

Lyra climbs the top rope and hits a cross body but Tiffany catches her and hits a Samoan drop but Lyra rolls her over. 1…2..kick out. Lyra climbs the top rope but is stopped by Stratton. She then dropkicks her. Tiffany kicks her in the knee and hits the double stomp. Cover! 1…2…kick out.

Lyra hits a German suplex. Lyra goes for a roundhouse kick but her knee buckles. Tiffany goes for her moonsault but misses and Lyra hits the roundhouse kick. Cover! 1…2…Tiffany gets her foot on the bottom rope.

Lyra climbs the top rope but is stopped by Stratton. Lyra goes for a powerbomb but Tiffany blocks it. She hits the moonsault for the win.

NXT Championship Match: Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Bron Breakker

Bron Breakker’s music plays and he walks out to the ring. Carmelo Hayes’ theme song plays and he walks to the ring.

The match starts and Hayes attacks Breakker’s legs. Bron knocks him down. Hayes with a pump kick. He then dives onto Bron and attacks him. Bron drives Hayes into the apron. Bron slams Hayes. He attacks Hayes in the corner.

Hayes fights back with a dropkick. Bron with a hip toss. Hayes is on the apron. He goes for a kick but Bron catches him and knocks him down. Bron slams Hayes’ face into the barricade. He sends Hayes into the ring. Hayes hangs him on the ropes and hits a leg drop.

Hayes works the leg of Bron. Hayes locks in the single-leg Boston crab. Bron fights out of it and hits a clothesline. Bron with a belly-to-belly suplex. He does it again. Cover! 1…2…kick out.

Bron with another belly-to-belly suplex. He sets up Hayes on the top rope. He hits a hurricanrana. Cover! 1…2….kick out. Bron hits him with a clothesline. He does it again. Hayes tries to fight back but Bron hits a German suplex.

Hayes fights back and hits a DDT. Both men exchange strikes. Hayes with a superkick and a pump kick. He does a springboard cross-body. Hayes plants Bron. Cover! kick out. Hayes catches him with a knee and a cutter. Cover! 1…2…kick out.

Both men exchange strikes again. Bron with an uppercut. He picks up Hayes but he reverses it. Hayes goes for the nothing but net. Bron goes for a spear and misses. Hayes goes for a cross body but Bron catches him with a spear. Cover! 1…2..kick out.

Bron with a gutwrench slam. He does it again. Hayes with a superkick. He hits the springboard elbow. Hayes hits the nothing but net for the win.
