WWE introduced the World Heavyweight Championship last month as a way to counteract the fact that Roman Reigns is rarely defending his own titles. A tournament was held to crown the inaugural champion, which turned out to be Seth Rollins. That said, it appears that the title will not carry its previous lineage.
When the title was introduced, many people assumed that it was going to carry over the lineage of the original World Heavyweight Championship, famously known as the ‘Big Gold.’
The Night Of Champions Premium Live Event started off with Seth Rollins squaring off against AJ Styles to determine the first WWE World Heavyweight Champion. After a long battle, Seth Rollins was the victor and thus became the inaugural champion.
However, according to the WWE website, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship does not carry its previous lineage and is recognized as its own title instead. Unsurprisingly, many fans are not happy with this decision whatsoever.
Seth Rollins even got new merchandise after winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. It remains to be seen whether Rollins will end up raising the prestige of the title in the coming months.
