Sasha Banks drew a ton of attention to herself when she, along with Naomi, walked out of WWE in May 2022. Now, they are performing Mercedes Mone and Trinity respectively, and wrestling for new companies. That being said, Mercedes Mone’s status is always noteworthy, especially right now.

Mercedes Mone suffered an injury during NJPW’s California event this week. She lost to Willow in that match, but this was not the plan. Mercedes legitimately injured her ankle, and it is reportedly broken. Now, they will have to figure out what’s next for her.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided an interesting note about Mercedes Mone’s situation. It was stated that she inked a new NJPW deal, but her first contract was set to expire this week. Now, she is injured, but still under contract.

“Mone had agreed to a longer-term deal with New Japan when her original deal expired on 4/27. We were told that the New Japan Strong championship and belt were created when she agreed to the longer term deal and both were created for her, after she showed strong drawing power for the San Jose show which sold out the Civic Auditorium.”

Mercedes Mone’s injury certainly changed plans for her in NJPW. From what Tony Khan said during the Double or Nothing media call, it might have interrupted plans for Mone in AEW as well.

This is an interesting situation. If anything, it gave AEW an excuse to show Mercedes Mone on Dynamite this week when they showed a highlight video package of Willow’s NJPW Strong Women’s’ Title win.

Only time will tell how long Mercedes Mone will be out of action. Her ankle injury is a real situation, so it is keeping her out of action. Hopefully, she will be able to continue her road after WWE without any more speed bumps.
