AEW shocked the pro wrestling world when Sting showed up on Dynamite. He allowed his WWE contract to expire, and that largely went under the radar until he was removed from WWE marketing. Now, he is with AEW and seemingly planning to wrap up his career with Tony Khan’s company.

Sting’s appearances in the AEW ring have been sporadic, with his last match on AEW Dynamite taking place in March 2023. In that match, he teamed up with Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy to take on Kip Sabian, The Butcher, and The Blade. It seems that Tony Khan sees Sting as a prominent figure, and he utilizes him accordingly.

During a recent media call for AEW Double or Nothing, Tony Khan addressed his plans for Sting. He expressed his intention to keep the iconic wrestler active for as long as Sting desires to continue wrestling. Khan emphasized that Sting brings tremendous value to the company in various aspects and also commended him as a great person.

Tony Khan further revealed that when the time comes for Sting’s final match, they intend to make it a significant event due to its importance to the wrestling world. He emphasized that they would not exploit Sting’s retirement for short-term gains, as he is a valuable asset to the company.

Tony Khan also highlighted the impact of working with Sting, Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, and others on rising stars like Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy Jack Perry, and MJF. He noted that when these young talents joined AEW, they were relatively unknown on a national scale. That being said, through their collaborations with established veterans like Sting, Jericho, and Rhodes, they have been elevated to their current level of recognition.

It was also mentioned that the Four Pillars Match for MJF’s AEW World Championship is the biggest match ever for the talents involved. That being said, Sting’s involvement was not confirmed either.

Only time will tell what happens with AEW and Sting. Those two could have a lot of stories to tell, but the Stinger might also want to wrap things up the right way this time.

What’s your take on Sting’s tenure in AEW? Did he impress you? Sound off in the comments!
