Saraya’s comeback in AEW has been gaining momentum, but it’s important to remember that she was absent from the wrestling scene for four years due to a career-ending neck injury. The injury occurred during a house show match in December 2017 after taking a kick from Sasha Banks, who has since left WWE and reinvented herself as Mercedes Mone.
Despite the circumstances, Saraya has made it clear that she harbors no ill will towards Mone. The two have maintained a friendly and supportive relationship throughout their careers.
When asked about the possibility of a match between them in an interview with the New York Post, Saraya indicated that the decision would ultimately be up to Mone and her comfort level.
“I would want to do whatever she’s comfortable with. That really affected her mental health, and I would want to respect that. I’m not saying she said no or anything like that. I’m just considering how I would feel,” Saraya explained.
However, apart from mental health considerations, any potential match between Saraya and Mone is currently on hold due to Mone’s physical health.
At the New Japan Strong Resurgence event, Mone suffered an injury to her right ankle while facing AEW’s Willow Nightingale in a match to determine the inaugural New Japan Strong Women’s Champion. As of now, there is no specified timeframe for Mone’s return to action.
