Mercedes Mone worked hard to establish herself as one of the most recognizable female pro wrestlers in the world right now. She made her way to NJPW and STARDOM – becoming a major star in Japan. Mone recently suffered an injury during an NJPW event and now it appears NJPW has confirmed her injury as well.
Mercedes Mone squared off against Willow Nightingale at the NJPW Resurgence event, in order to crown the first NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion. While Mone lost the match, she also suffered an ankle injury and had to be carried to the back.
This really worried many people, as fans believed she suffered a terrible injury that will put her on the shelf for several months. That said, Mercedes Mone was supposed to win the match before the injury.
In a press release on their website, NJPW provided an update on Mercedes Mone’s condition. The company confirmed that she injured her right ankle and that she received immediate medical attention after the match.
“During her match with Willow Nightingale in the main event of Resurgence May 21, Mercedes Moné sustained an injury to her right ankle.
Moné underwent a thorough appraisal of her injury immediately after her match and began treatment.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling joins fans in wishing Moné a full and fast recovery.”
Mercedes Mone also signed a new contract with NJPW prior to her injury. She was also shown on AEW Dynamite this week. We will have to wait and see when Mone will be able to make her triumphant return to in-ring action.
