Eric Bischoff Believes AEW Collision Proves Tony Khan Is Making The Same Mistakes WCW Made

WWE Hall Of Famer Eric Bischoff has been part of the pro wrestling industry for decades now and while he remains a controversial figure, there is no denying his influence in the business.  Bischoff has largely been critical of AEW and now it appears Bischoff believes Tony Khan is making the same mistakes that WCW made because of AEW Collision.

AEW President Tony Khan founded the company back in 2019 and made a lot of promises to fans, stating that they will never make the same mistakes that put WCW out of business.

It has been over four years since AEW’s inception and the company has seen a lot of growth. The company recently announced AEW Collision, which will be debuting on June 17th, signalling the return of Saturday night shows.

While speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff stated that Tony Khan has been making the same mistakes that WCW made. Bischoff believed that AEW Collision is the biggest proof that Khan is repeating WCW’s mistakes.

“Tony Khan once said, early on after the start of AEW, ‘I’m not going to make the same mistakes WCW made. I’m not going to go into the litany of mistakes that have been made and continue to be made by Tony. Many of them are similar to the mistakes I made. He’s making the same ones.

This is another one where if I was Tony and I was looking at the long-term viability of my brand. I would do everything I could to talk Turner out of making that Saturday night show if indeed they’re pushing it on him. If Tony’s stepping up and wanting to do another show for any reason, then I question his judgment, because he clearly doesn’t have the resources.

Because I lived through that, I hoped Tony wouldn’t make that mistake again, but here we are. The point is Tony needs to establish AEW to begin a growth pattern in AEW to create a demand in that growing audience for additional programming I don’t know that he’s created that demand.”

We will have to wait and see whether AEW’s new television deal will end up changing the course of pro wrestling forever. After all, a lot is riding on AEW Collosio being a success, with or without CM Punk.
