Vince McMahon is the Executive Chairman of WWE and has ruled over WWE for several decades with an iron fist. He cares about WWE’s reputation the most and has often given heavy fines to WWE Superstars for numerous reasons. Now it appears McMahon fined an ex-WWE Superstar $30K after an embarrassing international incident.
WWE toured the Middle East in 1997. During the tour, The Undertaker and Vader were interviewed by Good Morning Kuwait. For those who didn’t know, the interview didn’t go as planned, and Vader snapped at the reporter for asking The Undertaker about pro wrestling being real or not.
Vader then flipped the table and then shockingly grabbed the interviewer by the tie. This incident led to a lot of unforeseen results, as he was fined $166 and was put on 10 days of house arrest.
While speaking on his Something To Wrestle With podcast, Bruce Prichard stated that Vince McMahon fined Vader $30,000. Prichard added that this was the biggest fine ever issued by WWE to a superstar at that point.
“Vader was fined the largest fine we had ever fined anyone up until that point. $30,000. And expenses. Expenses of staying over there and security and everything, and getting them out and all that.”
Wrestling was then banned from Kuwait for a decade following the incident. Regardless, this incident will always be remembered as a black stain on both Vader’s and WWE’s reputation as a whole.
