Randy Orton has accomplished a lot of things during his 21-year run with the WWE. The Apex Predator remains one of the most loved and well-respected pro wrestlers in the world, but that doesn’t mean he will compete again. Now it appears that Orton was advised to mentor young NXT talent if he retires.

Randy Orton has been on the shelf for quite a long time due to his back injury. He was written off WWE television after being attacked by The Usos last year and fans continue to miss him. As previously reported, Orton underwent back fusion surgery and things haven’t gotten better for him since then.

While Randy Orton was around for WrestleMania 39, it was not in an on-screen capacity. Unfortunately, doctors have also advised against Randy Orton making his return to the squared circle.

While speaking on The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, Teddy Long stated that he believes Randy Orton should transition to a backstage role in NXT and end up mentoring NXT Superstars, if he has to retire from the squared circle.

“If Randy is pretty much set, and the other thing you said about him taking somebody under his wing and helping him out. That’s what I would do if I was this guy. Randy is still a young man; he’s still got a long future. That’s what I would do. If I were him, I would go to maybe NXT, take a job there, and help some of the young kids and show them the right way. Randy Orton is another guy who knows how this works, and that’s why you gotta have people like him, Shawn Michaels, or Terry Taylor.

If Randy was smart, I would take that. That’d be easy and plus, he’s giving back to the business. Then you can watch what you’ve done if you have helped some of the young kids out. You can sit back and watch and be proud of your work.”

Others also believe that Randy Orton should take doctors’ advice and not wrestle again. Randy Orton has been making a ridiculous amount of money for years now in WWE. Regardless, we’ll have to see what The Viper will do in the end.

What’s your take on what Teddy Long said? Do you think Randy Orton should mentor young talent in NXT? Let us know in the comments!
