Grayson Waller, the newest addition to the WWE SmackDown roster, shared his reflections on an unforgettable encounter with Shawn Michaels during his time in NXT.
Despite the missed opportunity for a wrestling match against the WWE Hall of Famer, Waller expressed gratitude via Fox Sports Australia for the experience and emphasized his determination to prove himself in the highly competitive world of WWE.
“No one in recent years can say that they were in the ring with Shawn Michaels. Even though it wasn’t in a wrestling capacity, like I wanted, that’s one of the greatest of all time and I was in there. And that doesn’t happen. So that was very big for me.”
The encounter took place during WrestleMania weekend at the renowned Staples Center, often referred to as “Kobe Bryant’s house,” adding an extra layer of excitement for Waller. However, the WWE Superstar didn’t shy away from expressing his disappointment at not being the main event at NXT Stand and Deliver against Johnny Gargano, using it as fuel to prove his worth.
“I took umbrage with the fact that I wasn’t the main event. I was upset about it. And I went out there to prove people wrong, to go out there and say, ‘I’m the best in NXT, hands down,'” Waller passionately expressed, determined to silence any doubts about his abilities.
While his dream of a wrestling match with Shawn Michaels didn’t materialize, Waller found himself reunited with another NXT standout, Johnny Gargano, orchestrated by Michaels himself. This unexpected turn of events reignited their previous feud, which ended with Waller taking Gargano out in December 2021.
As Waller transitions to the WWE SmackDown roster, he aims to capitalize on every opportunity and prove himself as a formidable force in the ring.
