Former WWE Superstar Gene Snitsky recently sat down for an exclusive interview with PWMania.com, delving into various topics such as his experience working with Vince McMahon, his thoughts on the current wrestling landscape, potential returns to WWE or AEW, his status with MLW, and more.
One particular highlight from the interview was Snitsky discussing Vince McMahon’s involvement in his storyline, specifically the infamous baby doll punt. Snitsky revealed that McMahon was very hands-on with the storyline and expressed his trust in Snitsky to execute it effectively. Snitsky, known for his daredevil personality, embraced the opportunity and assured McMahon that he would make it amazing.
“Well, I was always the kind of guy in high school and grade school that got dared to do something, do it just for a reaction that was just my personality. So, ironically, that was a perfect fit for me. And I can remember, you know, going into the ring and walking through it. And, Vince, you know, Vince was very hands-on with that storyline. So he came in, he’s like, ‘Hey, we’re gonna do this. You know, whatever you do…don’t f**k this up.’ I’m like, ‘Listen, Mr. McMahon. I was gonna be a punter in high school. This is gonna be amazing. Trust me.’ Honestly to me, I said this the other day on a podcast.”
Snitsky found it amusing that fake baby sounds were incorporated into the skit, and he struggled to contain his laughter while performing. Snitsky couldn’t help but find the entire situation ridiculous yet entertaining. The moment of punting the baby doll became an unforgettable part of his career.
“The funniest thing to me about that was the little fake baby sounds when I walked out with the baby doll. I’m thinking to myself ‘This is freaking great!’ Like, I’m trying not to laugh while I’m doing the skit. Because it’s so ridiculous. And I’m like, ‘This is awesome!’ So I get in there and you know, do the whole deal with the baby doll and punted it. It’s crazy.
Snitsky acknowledged that the storyline took on a life of its own, with fans still discussing it nearly two decades later. He found it fascinating that something so unconventional and spontaneous had resonated with viewers and continued to be a topic of conversation all these years later.
“Like looking back on it. I didn’t think anything of it. It was just another day at the office. But it’s, you know, it kind of grew a life of its own…19 years later, we’re still talking about it. So that’s kind of funny to me that something so like off the wall, off the cuff just kind of stuck with the people and resonated with the fans to the point where they’re still talking about it all these years later.”
Also in the interview, Snitsky also touched on other aspects of his career, including his views on the current wrestling product and potential returns to major promotions like WWE or AEW. He also provided insights into his current affiliation with MLW.
