Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a major name in the world of professional wrestling and maintains a strong connection to the industry despite his flourishing career in Hollywood. He has done it all as far as being a pro wrestler is concerned, making a mark in WWE. That said, it seems that The Rock was told not to talk about pro wrestling when he entered Hollywood.

The Rock is a third-generation pro wrestler, being the son of Rocky Johnson and grandson of High Chief Peter Maivia. He was destined to be a professional wrestler and made good in that regard.

The Rock made his way to Hollywood by starring in films such as ‘The Scorpion King’ and ‘The Tooth Fairy,’ among others. During the early period of his acting career, he was advised not to talk about pro wrestling.

While speaking on the Pivot Podcast, The Rock talked about venturing into Hollywood and how he wanted to have longevity in his career. The Rock stated how he was told to not mention pro wrestling at all, among other things. In the end, The Rock decided he couldn’t hide being his authentic self as he loved pro wrestling too much.

”When I got out of wrestling, I transitioned into Hollywood, and I wanted to have a career that hopefully had some longevity to it. And I wanted to be good. They wanted me to stop talking about pro wrestling and The Rock.

”All this s*** that at that time, if you don’t know any better and you’re trying to stay focused on the North Star, you buy into it because you’re trusting the people who are around you.

I bought into it a little bit for a few years,. Until finally I said, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I gotta be me. I love wrestling, it’s my life. If I wanna call myself The Rock, I’m gonna call myself the m*********** Rock …’ Fired everybody, hired a brand new team … And at least if I fail, then I fail being myself.”

The Rock was also recently immortalized with a football locker room named in his honor at the University of Miami. The Rock is happy being his authentic self and it clearly worked out for him, so that’s all that matters now.
