WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has accomplished a great deal in pro wrestling, paving the way for many generations of female pro wrestlers right after her. This includes even Charlotte Flair, with whom she has a history. Flair recently made it clear she wasn’t happy about not main eventing WrestleMania 39 and now it appears Stratus reacted to her comments.
Ahead of WrestleMania 39, there was a lot of discussion about whether Charlotte Flair vs Rhea Ripley would main event WrestleMania Saturday or if Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs The Usos would. Ultimately, Zayn and Owens ended up main eventing the show.
While both matches turned out to be fantastic, Charlotte Flair made it clear that was very frustrated with the snub, adding that she feels she & Rhea Ripley should have main evented WrestleMania 39.
While speaking to Out of Character this week, Trish Stratus talked about Charlotte Flair’s comments and made it clear that she disagree with them. Stratus felt that a female wrestler shouldn’t just be guaranteed a WrestleMania main event.
“See that’s like where we start to [differ]. Okay, so we have this thing like, there has to be a woman’s match. But I always look at it like, I don’t want you to look at it as a woman’s match. I want you to look at it as like this storyline should culminate to this match, to this WrestleMania moment. I feel like a lot of it is all about our stories and our characters and taking our fans on a journey to get them to a certain point.
So I don’t think it depends on like, ‘Let’s make sure we get the token woman’s match.’ I don’t want to be the token women’s match. I want it to be viewed as like; I want my match regardless of our gender to be ‘The match’ because of the storyline, because of the characters, because of the interest and because of what the fans want.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn is the best example because you know their friendship, you know what they do. And, some people don’t know, but now…We know they’ve had a 20 year history but it hasn’t been on TV, not on WWE TV necessarily, but we know that they’re this because of that history. That’s true, and it’s real. It’s been there for two decades.”
Charlotte Flair took a hiatus from WWE after she lost the SmackDown Women’s Title to Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 39 and is likely to be away for a longer time. We’ll have to see when she will return to WWE television.
What’s your opinion on what Trish Stratus said? Are you glad Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn main evented WrestleMania Saturday? Sound off in the comments!
