Vince McMahon is still in control of WWE, despite the fact that the company is now under a new parent company. WWE and the UFC will merge into a yet-to-be-named company traded under the TKO stock. Now, a lot of people have their own theories about how this all went down.

At the end of 2022, Vince McMahon found himself retired and at home after being compelled to step down as the CEO of WWE earlier in the year. This departure came as a result of allegations involving sexual misconduct and improper utilization of funds. However, in a surprising turn of events, McMahon has now returned to the helm as the President of WWE just a few months later. Not only that, but the 77-year-old also played a key role in negotiating a merger between WWE and UFC under the corporate umbrella of Endeavor.

During a recent interview with Jon Chuckery, Eric Bischoff provided his insight into Vince McMahon’s motivations for orchestrating these crafty business moves. Bischoff addressed the possibility that McMahon saw this merger as the only viable path forward that would enable him to retain his position of power within the industry. In the end, Easy E considers it Vince McMahon’s best way to go out.

“I don’t see this as a play for Vince McMahon to stay in power. I really don’t. I think … it was the best way for Vince McMahon to go out. I don’t think Vince McMahon wanted to sit in that chair until he was 98, but I think he wanted to go out under his own terms.”

Vince McMahon’s determination to maintain control and influence over the wrestling landscape may have driven his involvement in the negotiations and subsequent partnership with UFC. After all, there were other interested buyers for WWE, but they might not have wanted to keep Vince McMahon around. A couple did have interest in bringing back Stephanie McMahon, but WWE went with Endeavor’s deal.

The government hasn’t stepped in to stop WWE and UFC’s merger, and it’s unlikely that they will at this point. We are still waiting for that deal to close, but Vince McMahon isn’t going anywhere.

What’s your take on this situation with Vince McMahon staying in power? Do you think he did this as a big power play? Sound off in the comments!
