WWE Superstar Cameron Grimes may be in line for a push on the WWE SmackDown brand, according to recent reports.
The news comes after a segment on the most recent episode of SmackDown in which Grimes, formerly of WWE NXT, thanked Adam Pearce for the opportunity to showcase his abilities on the blue brand. During the segment, free agent Baron Corbin interrupted, leading to a back-and-forth between the two wrestlers and culminating in a match for next week’s SmackDown.
According to WRKDWrestling, WWE officials have been high on Grimes since before his official call-up from NXT, and that support hasn’t changed now that he is on the main roster. In particular, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H is said to be a vocal advocate for Grimes.
Grimes’ mic skills and impressive body transformation have won him fans backstage, and a push is expected for the wrestler once the post-Draft rosters take effect next week.
While drafted last, we’ve heard HHH has high hopes for @CGrimesWWE, having long advocated for him to be called up.
Between mic skills/body transformation, he has supporters backstage and a push is expected once the draft goes into effect. #SmackDown
Since losing to Joe Gacy on November 8, 2022, Grimes has not appeared on WWE TV. However, he returned to the ring with a dark match win over Ashante “Thee” Adonis at the February 24 SmackDown.
Additionally, Grimes had one look on WWE Main Event while he was still in NXT, which was a win over Akira Tozawa on the October 20 episode.
