Drew McIntyre has been the subject of much speculation since WrestleMania 39, with his contract with the company reportedly set to expire later this year. However, a new report sheds more light on his status within WWE.

According to Fightful Select, McIntyre’s deal with the company is actually up in early 2024, well before WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. The report adds that he had been operating as though WrestleMania 39 could have been his last with the company.

Although there have been reports that McIntyre was leaning towards leaving WWE, Fightful says that it’s more accurate to say that he doesn’t know what he wants to do. The report adds that if things aren’t working out between him and the company by the time his contract expires, he is willing to explore options elsewhere, while also leaving the door open for a possible return to WWE in the future.

McIntyre has been working with some injuries, but he has been determined to get through WrestleMania to work with Sheamus and put over Gunther. However, there have been reports of “frustration” and perceived miscommunications between McIntyre and WWE in recent years.

The report also notes that McIntyre is very hands-on with his creative when possible. While there have been pitches for him to return as a heel, those involved believe he will push back to ensure it makes sense creatively. McIntyre has been adamant about not making major changes to his character unless it makes sense creatively.

When it comes to his contract status, many wrestlers in WWE are unsure how the company’s deal with Endeavor will affect their renewals. However, the report suggests that the company has had a different approach to contract renewals in recent years.

McIntyre is considered one of WWE’s biggest stars and has been one of the company’s top performers since returning to the company in 2017. His contract situation will be closely watched.
