AEW has hired a few surprising names over the past few years, and now the company has made another hire, but this time it’s behind the scenes. Tony Khan has made a hire, and turned a podcaster into an important voice in his creative direction.

Tony Khan’s booking was praised for a while, but things took a turn in recent memory. There is a lot going on in AEW, after all, with a new Saturday show coming soon. Now, they have another person backstage.

Fightful noted behind their paywall that AEW has hired Will Washington in a major creative position. He will be assisting with continuity and long-term creative, while working directly under Tony Khan.

Among the duties Washington will be helping with are overseeing continuity and aiding in long-term creative, working directly with Tony Khan. Washington’s deal was official on Thursday, April 27, just ahead of his last D.A.D broadcast. Washington is one of the first wrestling podcasters in the space, and has done over one thousand broadcasts over 18 consecutive years of podcasting.

Tony Khan is still head booker for the company. It’s unclear how much creative freedom he will give out, but they are certainly doing their thing despite any negative fan reaction.
