Zelina Vega’s stock has been rising ever since she returned to WWE last year. While Vega did have to go on a hiatus again due to injury, she remained relevant on social media and fans continued to support her no matter what. Now it appears that The Rock convinced her not to quit pro wrestling.
Zelina Vega will be challenging Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WWE Backlash, which will be taking place in Puerto Rico. This is truly a big deal for her but it might never have happened had it not been for The Rock.
For those who don’t know, Zelina Vega portrayed the role of AJ Lee in Fighting With My Family. The Rock was one of the producers of the film, which is something some fans might not know.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Zelina Vega talked about The Rock offering her the role in the film. Vega revealed that she was about to quit pro wrestling after a failed WWE tryout before The Rock convinced her to stay thanks to the movie.
It’s funny because I was about to quit. When Dwayne [Johnson] and I spoke about it, right after I had a WWE tryout for the seventh time…at that point, I was like, ‘I’ve given it my all. They haven’t seen what they’re looking for. I can’t do this.’
To go from that to train at the Performance Center, it’s been a dream come true. Had I not said anything to him [The Rock], to not be able to live this dream…it’s crazy how these little things [work]. If one thing had just changed, none of this would have happened. I owe a lot to him.”
We will have to wait and see whether Zelina Vega stands any chance at defeating Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. For the time being, she has all the momentum in the world.
