Triple H had a huge announcement for fans this week on RAW as he revealed a new World Heavyweight Championship title. This was seen as a big deal for many, but others felt it was completely unnecessary. Now it appears that Corey Graves thinks the new World Heavyweight Champion will be seen as ‘less than’ Roman Reigns.
The new World Heavyweight Champion will be crowned at WWE Night Of Champions on May 27th. That said, WWE has yet to announce any sort of tournament to crown the new champion.
Ringside News exclusively reported that the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship was something that Triple H had planned on for a very long time. Even then, many fans feel the new title wasn’t even necessary.
While speaking on After The Bell, Corey Graves talked about WWE introducing the new title. Corey Graves stated that the World Heavyweight Champion will be seen as ‘less than’ Roman Reigns.
“I think it’s exciting to have that championship back because it gives ‘Raw’ and ‘SmackDown’ both the opportunity to identify themselves as separate, strong, complete brands.
But with the introduction or reintroduction of the World Heavyweight Championship comes an epic workload. Until somebody beats Roman Reigns, there will always be a perception that any other champion, any other superstar, is slightly less than. So the onus is on whoever becomes World Heavyweight Champion at Night of Champions to put in the work.”
WWE was also blasted for their ‘senseless’ decision of introducing the new World Heavyweight Championship. Regardless, only time will tell how the title will be viewed after Night Of Champions next month.
What’s your take on what Corey Graves said? Do you think the new champion will be viewed as inferior to Roman Reigns? Sound off in the comments!
