Former NXT star Roderick Strong made a surprise debut on AEW Dynamite last night, coming out to save his former Undisputed Era teammate Adam Cole from an attack by the Jericho Appreciation Society. However, Strong’s appearance in AEW led to his removal from the WWE active roster page on WWE.com, where he had remained listed for the NXT roster.

According to reports, Strong had requested to be released by WWE in 2022, but his request was denied at the time. Some in WWE believed that his contract was set to run until 2024, which means that he was released rather than his deal expiring.

Strong had suffered an injury and had not wrestled since August 2022. It was not known whether he was still out injured or if WWE creative had not found a way to bring him back onto WWE TV.

Following his debut in AEW, the company announced that Strong had signed with them, much to the surprise of fans and AEW talent alike. While WWE had remained silent about his status, they recently instructed 2K to not include him in the WWE 2K23 roster.
