Steve Austin Explains Why The Rock Was The Best Stunner Victim

The Stone Cold Stunner is one of the most iconic finishing moves in WWE history. It was the signature move of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, who used it to stun his opponents and win countless matches. But who took the Stunner best? According to Austin himself, there is only one answer: The Rock.

The Rock and Austin had a legendary rivalry that spanned three WrestleManias and many other events. They were the two biggest stars of the Attitude Era, and their matches were always electric. But what made them even more entertaining was the way The Rock sold the Stunner.

Whenever Austin hit The Rock with the Stunner, The Rock would react in a dramatic and hilarious way. He would flip over, bounce off the ropes, or fly across the ring. He would make it look like he was hit by a truck.

During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Austin was asked who took his finisher the best. Without hesitation, the Rattlesnake replied, “I always go to The Rock.” Steve Austin went on to elaborate that The Rock always took the extra effort to careen around the ring which meant so much to him.

“The Rock would always take that extra effort to careen around the ring, and you know, way oversell fashion,” Austin said. “But it just meant so much when he did that because the big matches that we had, whether it was [WrestleMania] 15, 17, and 19 those moments meant so much.”

Steve Austin continued to say that The Rock would bounce around the ropes and land back on him while taking the stunner.

“Here’s the thing that people don’t understand about when you give The Rock a Stunner, that guy he was so jacked and just so hard. When he’s bouncing around the ring, sometimes he’d flop off the ropes and end up landing back on me I was like, ‘Jesus you’re killing me.’”

The Rock’s Stunner sells are still remembered fondly by wrestling fans today. They are a testament to his charisma and athleticism, as well as his chemistry with Austin.
