WWE Hall of Famer Edge has seen the pro wrestling industry change in many ways throughout his career. Being such an accomplished name, it is no surprise that many people take his opinion seriously. When it comes to celebrities taking up spots in WWE, it appears that Edge welcomes the move.
The concept of celebrities in professional wrestling is certainly nothing new. After all, celebrities have been part of events such as WrestleMania since the very first show. They have also been involved in programs on both Monday Night RAW and Friday Night Smackdown.
The likes of Becky Lynch believe WWE bringing in celebrities will kill the company. The main argument is that celebrities come in and take up spots that should have gone to more deserving WWE Superstars instead.
While speaking to Logan Paul on the Impaulsive podcast, Edge addressed the criticism against celebrities taking up spots in WWE. Edge stated that people would always find something to complain about and added that celebrities are a welcome addition to pro wrestling.
“S***, they call me a part-timer. The jaded malcontents are always gonna have something to complain about, right? Here’s how I look at it. You step in there, you’re good with me. I’ve always looked at it as if you can bring eyeballs to our product, you’re my friend… If you’re truly comfortable in your position within wrestling and within this company, then you don’t sweat that, you welcome it.”
As for Edge himself, he has about a year left in him to compete at an elite level. Regardless, celebrities are certainly here to stay in WWE and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
