Mercedes Mone has worked hard to establish herself as one of the best female pro wrestlers in the world right now. She became a huge deal after walking out on WWE and finally debuting in NJPW earlier this year. Now it appears that she does not think WWE is the ‘big time’.

Mercedes Mone is currently the IWGP Women’s Champion after beating KAIRI in February. Afterwards, Mone’s stock only continued to rise thanks to her current heel gimmick, where Mone is simply far too confident in her own abilities.

The former WWE Superstar has already accomplished a lot in Japan, successfully defending her title earlier this month in a classic match. Mone’s performance in Japan has truly astounded fans who were used to her wrestling in WWE’s style.

While speaking to Sports Illustrated, the IWGP Women’s Champion discussed her time in WWE. Mone admitted that she believed WWE was ‘big time’ but that is no longer the case as Japan simply has a higher standard of women’s wrestling.

“The ultimate goal for a lot of professional wrestlers is to make it to WWE. That’s what I thought was the big time. But I did that. I wanted to make new history, and the place to do it is here in Japan. Japan has the highest standards for women’s wrestling, and I want to set the standard in New Japan.”

Mercedes Mone is contracted for one more match, which is the one with Mayu Iwatani. As previously reported, Mone is currently negotiating another NJPW. We’ll have to see how long Mone will remain a champion in NJPW.

What’s your take on what Mercedes Mone said? Do you want her to remain a champion for a long time? Sound off in the comments!
